Biography

Méav is a multi-million selling Irish singer and recording artist. Best known as the tall blonde in Celtic Woman who adds delicious wriggles to her soprano renditions of traditional tunes (NY Times), she is equally at home singing classic Irish airs and lilting fast songs. As a founder member of Celtic Woman, Méav is featured on four of their hugely successful DVDs and CDs. Named the #1 Top World Music Artist by Billboard Magazine, Celtic Woman has sold more than 4 million units and their TV specials have aired more than 13,000 times on US TV. Personal highlights of her career with Celtic Woman include performing in Radio City Music Hall, New York, on St Patrick’s Day, and breaking Andrea Bocelli's record by remaining at number 1 in the Billboard World music charts for 90 consecutive weeks.

Méav has released three successful solo albums including Celtic Journey (EMI), which debuted in the top ten in Billboards World Music charts. She has also toured as a solo artist in Europe, Asia and North America. She was honoured by the invitation to perform in Korea and Japan where her singing is known as healing music. She had a sell-out tour in the Netherlands as well as many performances in Ireland. She was chosen to play the role of Erin the Goddess in Lord of the Dance (South Africa) and has performed with a wide variety of artists including Elvis Costello and the Chieftains with Anuna, the original Riverdance choir. In March 2008 she performed the Irish and American National Anthems in New York to celebrate the re-opening of the American Irish Historical Society. Méav sings Where the Sunbeams Play on the soundtrack of the Disney movie, Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure. Recent notable performances include her Carnegie Hall Début with the New York Pops Orchestra in early March, duetting with renowned Irish tenor Ronan Tynan in Buffalo on St Patrick's Day and a headline performance at the Québec Celtic Festival, Canada in September 2010. She is reunited with her Celtic Woman colleague Orla Fallon in a new TV special for PBS, which is airing in December 2010.

Raised in a family where every event was celebrated with music, Méav was educated through the Irish language and studied classical voice, harp and piano while completing her law degree in Trinity College, Dublin. Her traditional and classical background has influenced her sound, which combines Irish drumming, violin, guitar, traditional flute, piano and haunting vocal harmonies.
